Trying To Comfort (fragmented/practice piece)

Wretched and restless from a night of deep thought,
The young man is but a child inside.
His breathless calls, at midnight hours, just tear apart
His world just as the light subsides.

I gasp out the words, Dante heard the screams,
The memories of his mother all torn and ruined.
Sex and murder destroyed her sanity
And left her uncontained and a wreck of herself.

The sympathy and the pointless consolations
Are all but insults to tortured ears.
The demons of Hell claim the wonders of the soul
Just as the child loses everything to the captors.

Theirs is a broken-hearted cry, projected to the sky
And I really do not need this now.
His sight and his sorrow are all held within and build
The bridges between each piece before the ice splinters.

The heat from the flame scalds the fringe of our thoughts,
The ever burning passion that tears them all down.
I begged them to let him go, to give him back his life
But now he gave it up willing, weary from the fight

His pain seemed to take apart the night.
