NOTES: Leon sees Violet more vividly because of Dante. He is a conduit to the spirits and Leon experiences his dead wife more clearly because Dante is near.
After Violet's sudden death, after Leon's arrest, Leon is driven to near madness by witnessing a visitation from Violet as he is held within a prison cell awaiting trial. This is due to Dante being close, although Violet is able to walk unaided for short periods, in dream-like states due to her own abilities of necromancy when she was alive. Leon is reduced to a howling mess after this encounter and therefore is transported to a mental institution rather than taken to prison or the gallows. It was decided that he was not the murderer, although Leon doesn't fight the conviction, as not enough evidence was present and he was completely unfit to stand trial.
When Dante begins to understand that his presence is what gives Violet her real power, he blames himself ultimately for Leon's death.
Looking upon her face gave him strength, it gave him a new feeling he had never experienced - something like peace.
A second glance at the procession found Dante looking upon a young woman, her body slumped forward slightly as if to disguise her stature and shrouded in many dark layers with a thick shawl covering her hair and most of her face. But her eyes was brighter than the entire daylight's sun and despite being cast down they were like beacons to Dante, drawing him towards her within her gentle and divinely beautiful features.
Now Dante had read how many a man had been captured by the sight of pretty eyes but this was something entirely different. The weight of grief within them was utterly suffocating, like mountains of rock crushing the life out of him, and the sheer pain they radiated left him feeling as if he had been scraped of all feeling. As if plunged into ice cold waters. The wells of despair were trapped behind her dewy blues, and they were tainted like splintering glass over a glorious painting. The brutality of sorrow Dante knew too well, it was not quiet and solemn, it was screaming and it was violent, and still it beckoned as if a kindred spirit. She was so purely beautiful and entirely petrifying.
In the graveyard, she slid the shawl from her head and shook her hair free from the tangles of fabric around her body. Dante could have gasped at her but thankfully saved himself in time from the humiliation. This woman possessed the most glorious cascade of copper hair that fell in loose curls like golden waves about her shoulders and down her back. Dante felt entranced and blushed intensely willing himself to look away. But he couldn't. Her despairing eyes and her stunning face, and now her crowning glory combined made Dante feel almost weak. She drew him in and there was nothing within him that wanted to resist.
